Fashion Fail

Posted: February 7, 2012 in Uncategorized

Once upon a time I moved to Montreal and went to fashion school. After graduating (at the top of my class no less, overachiever to the max) I worked in the industry for 7 years.

I spent years going to fashion week and the big parties. Going out often, knowing the right people and living that lifestyle.

pretentious …. and now?

I wear yoga pants to work… or jeans that are (happily!) baggy now. My hair is often in a ponytail and my nails are definitely not manicured (…. and if they are it’s done by me and chipped in two days)

After my cranky day yesterday I woke up this morning to my alarm and while laying there shutting it off I started to remember my dream…. in which I was attending camp.

Fat camp that is.

So yeah, that really put an extra 20 minutes of moderate cardio into perspective REALLY fast.

I hopped out of bed and poured the coffee, grabbed my meals and my bag and headed out. I had to make a quick pit stop for a banana as per my new meal plan and then it was off to the gym for legs and cardio.

Once i got to the gym and swapped out my sweats and (… my mom’s) cozy ugg boots for my shorts and sneakers I noticed what a hot mess I really looked like in the morning.

JAN 22 024

Plaid shorts, unmatching tank top, two different socks (for no reason other than laziness in matching socks up when I do laundry). The joy of working out at 6am is that it’s really just old people and “the regulars”. I don’t care if I have mascara smudged all over my face post cardio or I look like a hot mess. It’s about getting in the door and getting it done. Nothing fancy here.

The workout? Spot on. I was 100% back to myself. I admit everything was feeling just a little bit heavier, but I still managed to go up a bit on a few exercises, even if it was only by 2.5 or 5 lbs. It’s not a huge increase, but it’s still an increase. I only have two workouts left this week before I get my new plan to start Saturday and I fully intend to get every little bit out of them that I can.

The cardio? Honestly the first two minutes sucked. After legs they were feeling like dead weight and I was on the stepmill. Mentally I just didn’t want to do it, but then I did the whole internal pep talk and increased the speed a bit and knocked out 20 sweaty minutes. It felt AWESOME to accomplish that.

Despite my meh reaction to having a banana in my meal plan, of course I ended up sending out an email to the coach saying that “ignore my last email, turns out I do like bananas. Especially if they’re half frozen from being forgotten in my car at the gym”.

Oh becca…. how crazy and resistant to change you are.

At least I admit it right?!

It feels really great to be back to myself and back on. I’ve got a food rant (totally not related to my diet, but the reaction from others to my diet) and a post about a pair of jeans that I just never could throw out brewing in my head… but it’s late and I’m tired so the only thing I’m going to brew now is setting the coffee pot and going to bed.

Are you a matchy matchy gym goer? Or a total hot mess like me?

  1. I’m a hot mess as to why I know we would get along a okay. Anyways-I enjoy reading about your fashion world. I could not imagine (though I’m super jealous) of your fashion adventures. Seems like it would be nuts!

  2. hahaha ohhh I go to the gym in crap that doesn’t match at all during peak hour. It’s a great way to get people to stop interrupting your workout to chat, that is for darn sure!

Same here, doesn’t even matter what I look like at the gym (usually an absolute disaster) as long as the workout gets done. As for fashion you’ve got it all together with the yogas and pont tail. HOT STUFFFF.
